Biloxi man, photography firm earn volunteer awards Alexander's Photography and Delmar Robinson are being honored with the Governor's Volunteer Service Awards. " Robinson, a Biloxian who has worked on housing and other issues on the Gulf Coast for many years, will be given an award in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Sustainable Community Solutions at the GIVE Awards luncheon at the Mississippi Museum of Art on Monday. The work benefits those in need, and last year alone gave more than $19,500 "in kind" photography to South Mississippi nonprofit groups. Robinson, who'll be chairman of the board for Harrison County's HFH, was credited with helping the expansion of the organization through his leadership. He's taken on several other housing and home-ownership issues through the years. Alexander's Photography, also of Biloxi, will also be presented an award for Outstanding Service by a Business at the luncheon. Robinson has worked with Habitat For Humanity, and set up a Harrison County affiliate years ago. The Skalijes also spent five months after Hurricane Katrina capturing the destruction in South Mississippi, which they gave the city of Biloxi, then–Gov. Haley Barbour's office and others to use in publications on the effects of the storm. |
