The competition is open to young people aged between 12 and 18 and was initiated by Hobsons Bay Victoria Police Inspector Bill Mathers.

"This is a great project and I encourage all young people who live, work or go to school in Hobsons Bay, regardless of their photographic skills to enter," Cr Briffa said.

"There are some wonderful prizes up for grabs, including a Canon 1000DTKIS EOS 10.

Inspector Mathers said there was a wealth of talented young people in Hobsons Bay and the competition is about them using their talents through photography to promote the positive aspects of our community.

"Winners will also have their work featured on the Airtime flags at the Altona Meadows Skate Park later this year.

"I see this as a brilliant opportunity for young people in Hobsons Bay to view their community through a camera lens and to gain an appreciation of the excellent place in which we live and work," he said.

"It"s not about the most technically correct photo, it"s about capturing fantastic images and challenging young people to showcase how they see our community.

"We ask participants to use their imagination to capture a place or scene that typically represents Hobsons Bay or an image of the diversity of people and cultures we have at our doorstep.
