"We use PawsAbilities to bring awareness of what service dogs do for people with disabilities," she explained. "It is geared to be a family fun event. "They give people a feeling of independence. Their goal is to assist people gain a better appreciation for the role service dogs play while giving humans and canines an excuse to enjoy quality time together while helping others. PawsAbilities runs from 9 a. to 4 p. Other local dog organizations will be on "paw" to share information about the programs and services they offer. Other activities include a scavenger hunt, a dog Olympic games, a cutest dog contest, the Great Biscuit Bite-Off, agility try-outs, a costume contest, a dog parade, a Kids' Corner and demonstrations by the Susquehanna Service Dogs. both days. While the organization asks for a $5,000 contribution from each individual, scholarship programs help reduce that cost to $800. PawsAbilities is the largest fund-raising event of the year for the Susquehanna Service Dogs, a program of Keystone Children free class and stage presentation by Laurie Luck of Smart Dog University, a puppy charm school. More than 300 volunteers are involved in organizing and running the two-day fund-raiser that benefits Susquehanna Service Dogs. It costs SSD about $20,000 to raise, train and place one dog. "There are tons of activities and games you can play with your dog," Taylor says.
