Businesses invited to be part of Google Maps

After expanding Google Maps to offer panoramic views at the street level a few years ago, Google is now seeking to give Internet users a look right inside willing - and paying - businesses. companies started appearing on Google Maps in this way in January.

Chantal Roy, a photographer accumulating images for this purpose in Ottawa, said panoramic views of Canadian businesses' should start appearing on Google Maps in the coming weeks.

At this point, the resources are not available to include particularly large business locations, such as some shopping malls, Roy said.

A release form Roy's company, PrezenceMedia, said photographers are available to take images of companies in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Victoria and in other Ontario cities such as Windsor, London and Kitchener

She said companies pay a one-time fee of at least $250 to be part of this new Google initiative.

"It's going to take at least two, three weeks before we can see some in Canada," Roy said. Companies opting for this are permitted to link directly to their Google images from their own websites or their Facebook pages, Roy said.

Canadian companies interested in having their interiors pictured for Google can find out about photographers available in their area by calling 1-877-737-8518 or logging onto maps. html.
